Hi, I’m Lexi!
The hands behind Moon Snail Pottery. My clay journey has had a few wobbles, but that’s half the fun. I first got introduced to ceramics in my freshman year of high school and immediately fell in love. I based my senior project around pottery and began apprenticing under an amazing potter, Susan Hencke of Sweetgrass Pottery in Newbury, NH. But then, cue the pandemic (yuck), and things came to a pause. Ceramics faded into the background.
It wasn’t until later in college that I wandered into a paint-your-own-pottery studio and remembered just how much I loved ceramics. I made it my mission to get back on the wheel and I did! During my senior year, I took another pottery class, and something clicked all over again. I found joy in both hand-building and wheel-throwing, but the wheel is where I felt most at home.
Now, a year later, I’ve returned to pottery once more! I throw most of my pieces on the wheel, often adding hand-built textures and details along the way. I aim to create pottery that’s both functional and inspired by nature. I fire everything to cone 5–6 using layered dip glazes (and hopefully soon adding more paint glazes to my collection). I make mugs, vases, planters, bowls, cups. If it curves, I probably love it.
The name Moon Snail Pottery comes from one of my favorite hobbies, collecting shells. Something I’ve loved since I was a kid and still do today. They have always caught my eye with their soft spirals and quiet beauty. Moon snails grow with their shells, adding new layers as they evolve. That felt like the perfect symbol for this whole journey… With each piece I too grow slowly, intentionally, becoming stronger and more connected to my work.
So, whether you’re here for a mug to sip your morning tea, a vase to fill with beautiful anniversary flowers, or something you just want to hold because it feels right, I hope my work brings a little bit of the natural world, and a lot of joy, into your hands. :)
